A local charity amateur football competition, JW Hunt Cup, has presented a cheque for £10,000 to the Beacon Centre.

Beacon has been the sole beneficiary charity of the JW Hunt Cup since the competition first began 91 years ago. This latest donation of £10,000 means that the group has now raised over £330,000 for the Wolverhampton based charity.

Members of the JW Hunt Cup committee visited the Beacon Centre in Sedgley to present this latest donation. Alex Hamil MBE, president of the Cup, said: “We are delighted to be able to present this cheque for £10,000 to the Beacon Centre. Beacon is a charity very close to our hearts. We are very proud to have been supporting the same, incredibly worthwhile charity for 91 years.”

Gary Moulder, head of finance at Beacon, accepted the cheque from the committee saying: “We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing support from the JW Hunt Cup. Running this competition every year since 1926 and raising over £330,000 for our charity is an amazing achievement.  Without their support we would not be able to provide the services and care that local people living with sight loss have come to depend on. We would like to thank everyone involved with the JW Hunt Cup.”

The JW Hunt Cup is a charity amateur football competition that was started in 1926. Each year dozens of amateur football teams and hundreds of players compete in the cup which raises funds to support local people living with sight loss.
