A retired doctor from Albrighton will be running the London Marathon on 28 April to help raise £5,000 for Beacon.

Nick Price was a consultant eye surgeon at the Eye Infirmary at Wolverhampton New Cross Hospital and a former trustee of Beacon. He is now enjoying his retirement but is not yet ready to hang up his trainers.

Nick, 65, said: “Because of my work at New Cross Eye Infirmary and Beacon I know the impact sight loss has on a person. This is why I have chosen to run for Beacon to help make a real difference to the many people around the Black Country and Staffordshire living with sight loss.”

This is Nick’s second marathon and the fitness addict, who also cycles, is raring to get to the front line come 28 April. He will pass many famous landmarks through the capital such as Buckingham Palace, Tower Bridge, Battersea Power Station and lots more. He is now calling on the public to help him reach his £5k target.

Gurinder Atwal, Community and Events Fundraiser, added: “We are proud that Nick has chosen Beacon as his charity for this year’s Marathon. His work over the many years at New Cross and with Beacon has had a huge impact on the local area. We now need the help of the community and our supporters to reach the £5k goal – so please donate generously and help us smash our target.”

Nick also added: “My training is going well, and I can’t wait to hit the streets of London and cross the finish line. My friends and family will also be there on the day cheering me on and giving me that extra push I need. Raising £5K will not be easy, but I’m positive with the great community around me it will be achievable.”

Nick is also asking for other runners around the area to join him for group runs to help motivate him and encourage others to get fit. To make a donation to Nick’s marathon run, please visit: uk.virginmoneygiving.com/NickPriceBeacon2019
