Beacon Centre is bidding to bag a massive cash boost from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative and we need your help!

Tesco teamed up with Groundwork to launch its community funding scheme, which sees grants of £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000 – raised from carrier bag sales in Tesco stores – being awarded to local community projects.

Arwyn Jones, chief executive at Beacon said: “We are delighted to be one of the shortlisted charities. We really do hope that people will support us and call into their local Tesco store to cast a vote for Beacon.

“We have been providing care and support to local blind and visually impaired people for more than 140 years and many local people living with sight loss have come to depend on the services we offer. We are very grateful to Tesco for giving us this opportunity to raise much needed funds.

“The money we receive from this initiative will be used to help visually impaired people access sporting activities, in particular golf. Our golf training programme and tournament have been specifically designed to re-able and re-engage people with sight loss, and encourage people at risk of being socially isolated to build confidence, self esteem and develop skills that will help them to live more independently.”

Customers can vote for the Beacon Centre in the following Tesco stores: Bushbury Express; Claregate Express; Wednesfield Express; Willenhall Birmingham Express; Eastfield Express; Penn Road Wolverhampton Express; Willenhall; Aldridge Express; Walsall Extra; Wolverhampton Express; Bilston Willenhall Road Express; Wolverhampton Hurst Road Express; Willenhall High Road Express and Walsall Brownhills. Voting is open throughout September and October.
