Are you blind or visually-impaired or know or support someone who is?  Why not come along to our Technology Day to find out how gadgets, smart phones and tablets can be used to make life easier?

We are pleased to announce that our next Technology Day will take place at the Sedgley site on Thursday 14th June.

The day is open to members of the public and is free to attend.  We will cover many different applications for technology including:

–          Making  the most of magnification and lighting

–          Applications for Virtual Reality technology

The day comprises a mix of presentations and the opportunity to browse exhibitors’ stands to try out the technology for yourself and to chat to technology professionals.  Confirmed on the day are:

–          Give Vision (wearable augmented reality technology)

The day will be hosted by Beacon’s Technology Innovations Manager, Matt Harrison, himself a visually-impaired technology user.  Matt said, “There are so many amazing pieces of life-changing technology that can make a huge difference to someone with a visual impairment, but sometimes you just need to know what they can do or how they can benefit you.  This day gives people the opportunity to come along and find out more and, most importantly, talk to the professionals and have a go with the kit.  Not only have we got some great exhibitors coming along, but our own knowledgeable staff will be on hand to talk impartially about apps, gadgets and visual impairment.”

So, whether you are interested in finding out about how to use a mobile phone or tablet when you cannot see the screen; learn about apps to support you when out and about; or you want to explore other ways of dealing with printed text or watching TV, this free event is for you.
