We are delighted to announce that Beacon has been awarded the highly prestigious Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

The formal announcement came from Buckingham Palace on Saturday 2nd June.

Becky Sinar, our Volunteer Co-ordinator, and Michael Tolfree, one of our volunteers, represented Beacon at a Garden Party held at Buckingham Palace on Thursday afternoon, hosted by Her Majesty The Queen.

Becky Sinar commented: “We are absolutely delighted to have been announced as a recipient of this fantastic award. I am so very proud of our wonderful team of volunteers; they work incredibly hard for our charity and it is wonderful to have their hard work recognised in this way. Beacon has been supporting local people living with sight loss for over 140 years and we honestly could not keep doing this without the support of our volunteers.”

Arwyn Jones, Chief Executive of Beacon, added: “The gift that our volunteers give to people every week by donating their time and energy really is fantastic.

“The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service is the highest award given to local volunteer groups across the UK to recognise the outstanding work done in their own communities.

“At Beacon we know how invaluable all our volunteers are in supporting the work we do across all of what we do, and this award is a truly fantastic accolade for our volunteers and their work.

“A heartfelt thank you from all Beacon staff, customers and Trustees to all our volunteers on a truly well deserved award.”
